Whenever I listen to a song and then discover on Spotify that they have very few followers, I want to start screaming off the rooftops about them. Rather than keeping them a secret from the rest of the world, I want them to get the hype they deserve. So today I am going to tell you about a few artists that are incredible, but are relatively unknown, so that you can go and listen to them and give them the love that they need!
1. Sonntag.
Currently, the audio for this song on Youtube only has 119 views. When I found this out, I was floored--how could such a perfectly written and ethereal song have this little views? "Florian" was the first song I heard from Sonntag, and the song overall represents Summer 2019 for me. I quickly jumped to listen to the rest of his stuff, and was equally amazed by his other songs. Although very little biographical information exists about Sonntag, what I can find out is that it is led by Zach Johnston, who is based in Los Angeles, and does most of the lyrics, vocals, and guitar present in the songs. Right now Sonntag's most popular song is the tune "Little Palm Tree", which is also a great tune. Overall you must check them out!
2. Strath.
Every song that Strath comes out with, I have to immediately listen. So far, there hasn't been a single song that I don't enjoy from him. Based in LA, Strath grew up in Melbourne and creates fun, psych-pop tunes. If you're a fan of synth-based artists like Tame Impala or Unknown Mortal Orchestra, then you definitely have to check out Strath. The first song I heard from him was his cover of the Gwen Stefani classic "Cool", but right now my favourite is "Special" or "Again and Again".
3. August Eve.
Based in Los Angeles, August Eve has some of the most beautiful and chilling vocals I have ever heard. Her song "You Already Know" is the prom-night-esque sort of song you didn't know you needed. This really has been the song I can't stop listening to for the last three months, for good reason. I first heard her from the song "In Whose Image", which is a very compelling, distinctive song that seems different than anything I have ever heard before, in a good way. August Eve truly stands out as an artist, and I have never listened to anything like her before.
4. Porches.
Porches, the recording project of Aaron Maine, is based in New York, and writes some of the most eclectic and experimental melodies that are both satisfying and entertaining to listen to. The newest album from Porches, Ricky Music, is intensely interesting to listen to and includes some of my favourites, such as "Do U Wanna" (a song about alternating between two distinctive personas, one more outgoing and one more neurotic with an effective use of cowbell), "I Wanna Ride" (a bittersweet song about falling in love with an idealized version of someone), and "rangerover" (a romantic and lovely synth-driven song about summer romance). Overall I would highly recommend Porches, I've been listening non-stop.
Overall, these artists are incredibly talented and need all the love and hype in the world. If there are any lesser-known artists that deserve more attention, comment down below and let me know and I'll give them a listen!
