Five Song Recommendations for June

As part of a new recurring section of my blog, at the beginning of every month, I will be providing you with five songs you must listen to, songs that shake me to my core.

Only in My Dreams by The Marías

Perfect For: Driving home when the sun is setting in a way that the clouds turn purple. You are both perfectly content but also slightly nostalgic for the present (if that's even something that is possible).

Why I Like This Song: When the beat first drops, my heart just goes to a different dimension. This song is so beautiful, and I can never grow tired of listening to it. Depending on my mood, it can be deeply sad or really sentimental and cute somehow.

What Some Random Youtube Comments Say About It:

  • "This song is pure magic. beautiful. I can't get enough of it. The rest of the album is amazing too. It's a short album, but wow what's there... so freaking good."

  • "This feels like what I imagine bliss to be like. Like riding in a car with the sun in your eyes and wind in your hair, your lover in the driver's seat. Beautiful."

  • "I don't trust anybody who disagrees that this is the greatest song ever written."

Tree Among Shrubs by Men I Trust

Perfect For: Times when you want to be hugged by a song.

Why I Like This Song: The little synth is so cute and lovely. And listening to this entire album is perfect for any time when you're slightly stressed because it all puts you at ease and makes you feel like everything is going to be okay.

What Some Random Youtube Comments Say About It:

  • "This music only gives me peace and more reasons to be alive. One of the most valuable bands since the 80s."

  • "I can't imagine a more soothing sound."

  • "This makes me feel warm, cozy, and happy. There's something so healing about their music. I love this band so much."

F*ck Em Only We Know by BANKS

Perfect For: Anytime you want to feel like you're living for something or someone greater than yourself.

Why I Like This Song: It's so romantic, it's so compelling, and the way it builds from the verse to the pre-chorus to the chorus is so hypnotizing. BANKS has always had the most hypnotic, siren-like quality to her songs, and this one is no exception.

What Some Random Youtube Comments Say About It:

  • "This track... from beginning to end... is perfect. The beat, BANKS vocals, the vibe, everything."

  • "It's hard to find a song with such sensuality and such perfect way of describing your feelings. She's just so good!"

  • "2:08... I could have the bridge alone on replay all day. The bass, the synths, the passion in her voice. This song is exactly what it's like to be in love with someone."

Cocoon by 070 Shake

Perfect For: Feeling powerful whilst also levitating to a different stratosphere.

What I Like About This Song: The odd timing of when the beat comes in during the chorus is so incredibly amazing. It shocks me every time and keeps me enthralled with 070 Shake. I am absolutely obsessed with her. This entire new album is very good, as is her old stuff (listen to Modus Vivendi PLEASE!!!)

What Some Random Youtube Comments Say About It:

  • "Love how she carries herself on each track."

  • "She submerged herself in the Mother Lake, came out and wrote this masterpiece album."

  • "070 Shake never disappoints."

Faith Consuming Hope by Eartheater

Perfect For: Ascending to a different world... understanding emotional pain... becoming fully present in yourself...

Why I Like This Song: I don't just like this song. I love Eartheater. In fact, I'm obsessed with her and all her music. Her creativity, her aesthetic, her eccentricity; her music is so original, so never-before-heard, that I can't even begin to describe it. But I did write an entire article on her, so expect that soon. But anyways, about this song... it's so dark, so haunting, yet so delicate. Her voice (she has a three-octave vocal range) is so powerful, yet so soothing. Every time I listen to her, I feel like I am levitating.

What Some Random Youtube Comments Say About It:

  • "I mean this when I say it, that I’ve never connected to an artist more than with Eartheater. Her choice of imagery in her lyrics, the themes of transformation, growth, sexuality; her use and transformation of the word faith throughout this album all resonate with me so powerfully. I cannot stop listening to this album. I’ve never connected with one more."

  • "This feels like it wasn't meant for mortal eyes. What a beautifully haunted gift to the world."

  • "Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, showstopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, sh*t on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it."
