Intro to The Enneagram: Discover Your Type

A quick, five minute quiz I developed, plus reasons why I love the Enneagram so much.

Ah, the Enneagram. My favourite personality typing system by far. Why?

The beautiful thing about the Enneagram is that it is not just a tool to "categorize" and "label" people. Instead, the beautiful thing about this personality typing system is that it allows flexibility and growth. It recognizes:

  • People's personality traits can differ depending on their level of mental health

  • That there are different motivations for every personality

  • That personality is not a box

The Enneagram is a tool for people to "rise above" their personalities. What does it mean by that?

Our personalities are just a combination of different coping mechanisms we've developed throughout our lifetime. We created a "default" way of living in our childhood based on how we interpreted the world around us.

Some of us are motivated by the need to be/appear successful (Type 3). Others are motivated by a need to be morally "good" and live their life the right way (Type 1). Some are encouraged to seek security and approval (Type 6). And some others are motivated by a need to keep peace and avoid conflict with others (Type 9).

When we discover what we are motivated by, we can question some of the "truths" we tell ourselves. We can more easily pick apart some of our beliefs that may not be serving us. By doing this, we can gain more freedom and the ability to, as I said, "rise above our personalities."

I have created a short ten-question test designed to estimate your personality type quickly. It is by no means 100% accurate, so if you're further interested in the Enneagram, please take the time to take some other tests.

In the following nine weeks, I will explore every personality type in-depth, starting at Type One as part of my Enneagram Series. I will be providing an in-depth overview of each type, along with tips and advice. I will also create a personal music playlist with songs that fit the "theme" of your given personality type.

Take some time to explore your Enneagram type, and stay tuned.
