My Goals for 2021

Updated: Jul 12, 2021

An overview of my hopes and dreams and goals for 2021.

Every year I decide on a "motto" that will carry me through the year. 2019, for example, was "Drop the Mask," a reminder to be authentic, be vulnerable, and let people see who you truly are. In 2020, my motto was "Just Live," a reminder that the more time we spend trying to change things the less time we spend living. This year, my motto is "Live Whimsically", which, in other terms means to live life in awe of life. Basically, embrace the little things; don't take it too seriously; do things that are fun, even if others judge you. LIVE WHIMSICALLY!

I also like to create some goals that will help carry me through the year and give me a reminder of what I want to achieve. These were the goals I came up with:

MY GOALS:

Meditate daily for ten minutes.

After reading "The Headspace Guide to Meditation & Mindfulness" by Andi Peddicombe, I've realized how important it is to take time for your mind. Meditating, even for ten minutes a day can improve your focus, concentration, mental health, and stress! So far it's been extremely relaxing-- I've been following the guided meditations on the free Basics course on the Headspace app!

Post on my blog at least once per week.

If I am going to be paying to keep this blog up, I might as well use it to foster my creativity and to post things. Even if I only have a couple of readers ;)

Read ten books a month.

Yes, I want to read 120 books this year, building off of my 111 of last year. Seems insane, but I do read a lot of short poetry books so.

Create more art, poetry, stories, and songs!

Like I said, living whimsically is my goal, and so part of that is just creating things without meaning or consequence, just for the purpose of creation and playfulness. Y'know? So I want to carry less judgment and simply MAKE THINGS. :)

Practice authenticity, and vulnerability, as much as I can.

This is a lifetime practice; it isn't just something you start doing and it automatically becomes a part of you are. Vulnerability is something you have to keep up and make a choice to practice every day.

So... here's to 2021, and the weird--but hopefully wonderful--year it's going to be.
