Spotlight On: Eartheater

Experimental, ethereal, operatic pop that transcends this planet.

The haunting chords of "Spill the Milk" were my intro to the compelling world of Alexandra Drewchin, stage name Eartheater. Based in New York, Eartheater is a composer, choreographer, and producer that creates music that cannot be placed into any genre.

I don't think it is possible for me to really describe her music to anyone, or even describe the reason behind why I love it so much. All I can say is every time I play any of her songs, I enter a different realm. There is no one comparable, nothing that can truly match her energy; she is one of the most original, spellbinding artists I have ever discovered in my entire life.

Below are my top 5 tracks by her, that you must listen to ASAP.

Spill the Milk

The first song I discovered by Eartheater.

Faith Consuming Hope

Extremely haunting. Eartheater's siren-like voice really shines in this one.

Mitosis

The most recent song from Eartheater. More upbeat, but with her usual experimental synths and an incredible voice (did you know she has a three-octave vocal range????)

Scripture

More otherworldly sound. The chorus is truly compelling.

Below the Clavicle

One of my favourites. Her voice is so piercing and haunting.

BONUS: She's just as good in her live acoustics.

I was taken aback by her acoustic sound in this video. It just goes to show why I think Eartheater is one of the most talented and incredible artists right now.

Although her experimental aesthetic and sound may not be for everyone, I love how Eartheater pushes the boundaries of music. Her artistry and stand-out performances are outstanding.
